The Fig Tree of Temples: A Novel in Pictures

Beyond the Blindfold

This collection of illustrations is inspired by Ahmad Mahmoud’s novel The Fig Tree of Temples, which depicts the life and struggles of the people of southern Iran during the 1940s and 1950s. The novel is rich in cultural and folk elements, such as the mythical and symbolic role of the fig tree, which represents the land, the nation, and the faith of the characters.

The illustrations aim to capture the essence and expression of each character, using vivid colors and surreal forms. The collection is a tribute to the novel and its author, who was one of the most prominent writers of social realism in Iran.
